Residents across the Tri Cities try to figure out the next steps after losing so much to storm damage. The town of Damascus, Virginia was also hit hard as Helene blew through, knocking out bridges and cutting off lifelines.
The local park downtown has become a command center offering residents a place to take a shower, wash clothes, eat a hot meal and pick up needed supplies.
The world we live in is interconnected with technology, so when the power went out, many residents lost the capability to contact family and friends to let them know how they are.
Thanks to ITDRC Information Technology Disaster Resource Center the residents of Damascus can now access free internet.
“This is a mobile WIFI hotspot for internet and a phone charging station,” said Scott Walters representative.
